Schools and community
The Community Education Unit also monitors school student behaviours on trains and railway property in Queensland. If you would like to offer comments regarding school students at your station or on your train, contact the Community Education Unit or submit an online enquiry form.
Staying Alive The "Staying Alive" education program is provided in schools and community groups throughout Queensland. The education program is provided free of charge and covers a number of important topics including rail safety and security. The program is about reinforcing rail safety concepts and rules with a whole of school approach. To book a Community Education Officer for your school or community group phone 07 3235 1624 or submit an online enquiry form. Secondary schools are catered for with assembly addresses as well as the "Staying Alive" program. Safecity Safecity is an education program aimed at Level 4 school students providing them with facets of safe behaviours in their community. Partners include Queensland (Qld) Fire and Rescue, Queensland Police, Department of Industrial Relations, Pine Rivers Shire Council, Meals on Wheels and Qld Industrial Relations Department. Rail Connections QR and Duo Publications have combined to develop "Rail Connections", a rail based teachers resource package for schools in Qld. The package provides outcomes focused as per the current curriculum requirements in Queensland and integrated across all Key Learning Areas (KLA's). The package covers learning levels Pre Year 1 to Level 6. This package is currently being developed and will be distributed free to state and private schools in 2005.
