Objectives & Strategies
We are facing the worst drought in 100 years and what scientists are acknowledging is an accelerating climate change. As Queenslanders, we’ve all experienced the impact of this water crisis both at home - and now ever more so at work. Level 6 Restrictions are now in place. We need to act now and work together to make sure we play an active role in meeting our requirements – and more. ‘Not just a drop in the Ocean’ is an internal water conservation campaign backed by the SE and sponsored by the Group General Manager of Infrastructure Services Group (ISG), Glen Mullins. We need to spread the word about water saving and work together to share ideas and best practice so we can collectively make the difference. Not only is it ethical, it makes great business sense too! “Relentless pursuit of sustainable results”; “Customers are able to achieve their sustainability outcomes (social, safety, and environment) through the use of QR’s services and products”– QR has a stated commitment to sustainability in our corporate goals. We need to encourage water conservation as a way of life, not only at work but also at home, through providing advice and support for our colleagues. We’ve already made some significant progress with water saving efforts, from retro-fitting taps and putting in dual flush toilets, to monitoring water meters to reviewing practices and process which will give us long term business savings. But it isn’t all about the big initiatives – long term sustainability comes from changing our everyday activities and the way we view water usage, and this campaign will include informative stickers and posters which will go up in wash rooms and kitchens, to help staff find out how to cut back on usage. QR's Water Usage Reduction Campaign was launched on Thursday 28 September and reached around 80 members of QR management and station staff, including key attendees from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Government Energy Management Strategy group (GEMS). Talks were given by Matt Traves, Buildings Project Coordinator, ISG, Gary Doak, Manager Compliance and Risk, QRNational, and Alan Mullins, Environmental Manager, PSG. 'The Ripple Effect' Want to find out more about how to help QR save water and support drought efforts? It all adds up to make that difference.
