Case study

Erosion Control Research

QR has been collaborating with the Central Queensland University on the establishment of vegetation on erosion prone sites on central Queensland coal lines. The research has shown the importance of establishing early vegetative cover on new earthworks for the prevention of erosion and subsequent sediment generation which may impact on watercourses. Crucial to this work was the development of an efficient solar powered irrigation system. It was also demonstrated that with appropriate soil additives, the problem sodic subsoils could be revegetated without using topsoil. Work has progressed to commercial sized treatments at economically viable levels.
