Strategies
At certain times QR disposes of surplus assets which are no longer required by the organisation.

QR tenders sleepers in large quantaties when available and sells surplus locomotives, carriages, wagons and track machinery as they become available.  Other assets, such as, office equipment, scrap, manufacturing plants and motor cars are disposed of via auction or tender process.  QR may also negotiate a sale directly with buyers or offer items for sale at a fixed price.

These efficient and effective processes, help QR to maximise value of these unwanted surplus assets.

When purchasing assets for use within the organisation, QR has implemented a suite of standard contract conditions that suppliers are required to comply with when supplying QR with Goods or Services.

After a proposal is put forward, QR uses a fair and efficient tender evaluation process.  When undertaking purchasing, it is QR's policy to pursue the following principles:
  1. Open and effective competition;
  2. Value for money;
  3. Enhance the capabilities of local business and industry;
  4. Environmental protection; and
  5. Ethical behaviour and fair dealing with suppliers.
